Serbian chapter inaugural meeting

HEEDS Global EDC Network

We are working with scientists in various areas of the world to set up working groups. Thus far we have two groups, in Serbia and France, with interest from other areas of the world as well.

Dr. Aleksandra Buha Đorđević is our Global EDC Network Coordinator. Please contact her or Dr. Jerry Heindel for information on our Global Network, or if you are interested in helping set up a group in your area.

Professor Buha Đorđević also coordinates the Serbian chapter:

Serbian Chapter

The HEEDS Serbian Chapter, established as a Section within the Serbian Society of Toxicology (SST), aims to create a robust platform for addressing the challenges posed by EDCs in the region. Our vision is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, promote cutting-edge research, and enhance public awareness about the health and environmental impacts of EDCs. By aligning with the global HEEDS network, we seek to leverage international expertise and resources while addressing local and regional priorities. Over the next three years, we plan to build a strong foundation through workshops, public awareness campaigns, and webinars; expand regional collaboration by establishing sub-chapters in neighboring countries; and ultimately achieve long-term impact through impactful research, regulatory advocacy, and hosting the first regional HEEDS Congress. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of regional toxicologists, contribute to global HEEDS objectives, and create a healthier environment for future generations.

The first meeting during which the Chapter was established happened on 16th of January in Belgrade. During this meeting, we got 20 members of the chapter, and right now, we are working on identifying the regional representatives and establishing the international membership. We will have our next meeting in March.

France Chapter

France’s network held a webinar on May 29, 2024, to initiate the structuring of a French EDCs network, aligning with the goals of the American HEEDS network led by Dr. Jerry Heindel. Originating from discussions within the OBERON project consortium, the event aimed to assess the state of research, education, and regulation on EDCs in France. Coordinated by Dr. Normand Podechard (Irset – Inserm UMR_S 1085) and organized in collaboration with the STCM, the French Society Cellular and Molecular Toxicology chaired by Sylvain Billet (UR4492 – UCEIV), with Lydie Sparfel (Irset – Inserm UMR_S 1085) as secretary general. The event attracted over 145 participants, with more than 50 expressing interest in joining a future network.

The webinar aimed to foster collaboration among researchers, educators, and regulatory professionals, focusing on mapping EDC research in France, advancing education and regulation, and discussing the creation of a multidisciplinary network. Morning sessions addressed toxicology (in vitro and in vivo) and epidemiology, while afternoon sessions focused on education and regulation, concluding with a roundtable. Key contributions came from experts like Professors Xavier Coumoul (T3S-INSERM 1124, Université de Paris Cité), Jean-Baptiste Fini (PhyMA, CNRS/MNHN), Dr Sakina Mhaouty-Kodja (CNRS UMR 8246 / INSERM U1130 / Sorbonne Université) and Dr Cécile Michel-Caillet (Head of the REACH-CLP-EndocrineDisruptors Unit (URCP) / Risk Assesment Department / ANSES). The initiative seeks to enhance collaboration, visibility, and training, with plans to formalize the network, expand partnerships, and organize annual scientific events.

Key goals are to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support training, and inform regulatory frameworks. In perspective, under the leadership of Jean-Baptiste Fini, we are actively seeking funding to formalize and strengthen the structure of this network.
